Background & Aims: The quality of life issue is an interdisciplinary concept that includes the views of sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, clinical and medical scientists, social scientists, planners, economists, politicians and policy makers. Quality of life is one of the most important health issues, in which identifying the influential factors can help to expand and improve it. The students’ quality of life has various aspects and dimensions of education, research, physical, psychological, socio-cultural, welfare, recreational, economic and future of personal growth. The concept of quality of university life was defined based on the theory of expansion as life satisfaction during student life. The study of the quality of university life is one of the new topics that has been considered in quality of life studies. Students not only need to stay on campus until graduation, but they also need to participate in cultural issues, both inside and outside the university. Because researchers believe that the university can have a significant impact on academic achievement and results such as academic achievement and survival or students' academic burnout. In general, the university environment is an environment that affects the emergence and brilliance of human personality. The period of student life around the world is full of dynamism, transformation, innovation and a set of interactions that ultimately lead to the social, economic and cultural development of society. The importance of the issue of students’ quality of academic life as an active and prominent segment of society has a significant impact on learning and increasing scientific awareness and academic achievement. The students' quality of university life is like their general satisfaction with university life. Therefore, it is important to know and understand the main factors and components of creating students' satisfaction with university life. In fact, the students’ quality of life is a clear indicator of their satisfaction with student life. Social developments have been accompanied by changes in the field of education. Covid-19 disease has caused many learners around the world to have difficulty in learning. The emergence of the emerging and contagious disease of coronavirus in 2019 (Covid-19) in the world and its widespread transmission has caused serious problems in the health sector and other areas, including the economic and educational sectors, and has caused the closure of these sections. While observing health protocols, one should take a serious and special look at important issues such as education. One way to control the disease was quarantine, so face-to-face education in schools, universities and higher education institutions around the world became almost impossible for the fear of infecting teachers, learners and people working in these centers, but over time, activity must be resumed. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of reviewing the quality of academic life during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Methods: This article is a review study conducted in 2022 by searching the databases of SID, PubMed, Google Scholar, Magiran, Springer, Wiley, Web of Science (ISI), Scopus, Science direct, ProQuest using keywords of " Quality of life, academic life, pandemic, educational management, health system ". As a result of the search, 65 articles were found in the period from 2007 to 2022, and 30 articles were analyzed in the screening stage and 25 articles were analyzed at the end.
Results: This review study showed that the quality of university life occurs in the context of the university ecosystem and the quality of university life is related to several factors, the most important of which is satisfaction with university facilities, educational and social dimension, research and public facilities and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Conclusion: Considering the effects and consequences of the Covid-19 disease pandemic on students, it is recommended that in higher education policies, special attention be paid to the quality of students' academic life in order to increase the quality of life anf higher education goals. Student life is associated with various stresses due to its new and special conditions. Many students feel lonely and isolated as they enter the campus and leave their families. On the other hand, exposure to different personality types in the professional and dormitory environment, inadequacy of welfare facilities, economic deficiencies and reduction of support and supervision resources of their families expose them to psychological and social harms. In addition, the presence of other risks such as lack of interest in the field of study and other dissatisfactions increase the likelihood of academic failure, dropout and high-risk social behaviors for this group. Therefore, setting up mental health counseling centers in the university and dormitory environment, increasing facilities and sports and recreation programs, conducting medical examinations of new university students and expanding the hours of activity and services of dormitory clinics - can improve the health of students. Increasing the efficiency of mental health centers in universities reduces the problems and psychological and social disorders in students. It is suggested that psychologists and specialists plan and implement effective interventions to reduce the psychological consequences of the quality of student life during the pandemic and increase people's adaptation to the existing conditions, and encourage them to have an active lifestyle. Given the fundamental importance of the quality of higher education and the impact of quality of university life on students 'learning and knowledge enhancement, the researcher suggests that in higher education policies, special attention should be paid to the factors of students' quality of university life. Student localization is one of the policies of higher education in Iran that is implemented with the aim of providing satisfaction and access to students and improving the quality of university life. Therefore, decisions should be made based on scientific studies and attention to the quality of university life. Given the fundamental importance and necessity of quality academic life in the pandemic, with an emphasis on proper academic management, goals and strategies; purposefulness and development of work spirit of social responsibility can affect the increasing and comprehensive development in universities and should be implemented in the form of an efficient and practical model. Therefore, the present study can be considered as one of the practical consequences of this research according to identifying and ranking the dimensions of quality of university life in the pandemic period and also guiding university officials and administrators to formulate long-term strategies to improve the quality of university life.
