Background: Synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) is very valuable due to their applications in cancer treatment, unique thermal, optical and electronic properties. In this study, green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles was performed using Allium jesdianum extract. The green synthesis is a successful process that is environment friendly and low-cost as well.
Methods: In this study, the extract of Allium jesdianum was used as a reducing and stabilizing agent for biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles. The reaction was carried out by adding the extract to 0.1 mol zinc nitrate solution with increasing temperature to 75° C for 2 hours. Changing the color from brown to yellow indicates the production of nano zinc oxide particles.
Results: The formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles was confirmed by monitoring the sharp absorption peak at 375 nm. The size and morphology of these nanoparticles were determined by scanning electron microscopy. These particles have polyhedral shapes with round edges. DLS and AFM analysis reveals that the green synthetized ZnO NPs are in the range 14-60 nm.
Conclusion: In this research, NPs obtained from the green synthesis method were useful and coated peripherally with potent secondary metabolite.
