Abstract:   (18907 Views)
Carotid body tumors may present with variable clinical symptoms and endocrine dysfunction. E. N. T, vascular and Neuro surgeons are intresting to management of these tumors. Four cases that we describe had palpable neck mass and disocomfort, dysphagia and dizziness. Neuroimaging tests include CT scan, angiography that showed a medium to large size vascular tumor in neck. The mainstay of therapy for carotid body tumors is complete surgical excision. We think that biopolar coagulation technique in capsular-adventitial plane without use of a shunt and preoperative embolization are best. These are as opposed to the subadvantitial plane as advocated by some suregeons.
