Background & Aims: Unfortunately during the past years is reported velocity and acceleration of HIV infection, especially through high-risk sexual relations. In this study, were examined the effect of stigma, mental health and coping mechanisms on risky behaviors in HIV-positive patients. Methods & Materials: This study is a cross-sectional study. By using available sampling method were enrolled 450 HIV-positive patients of behavioral and infectious disease clinic Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran. The data collected included demographic questionnaires Berger Scale Stigma, General Health-28 Questionnaire, Lazarus coping strategies questionnaire (WOCQ), respectively. To analyze the data were used independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation. Results: Mental health, stigma and coping mechanisms of avoidance and escape is associated with risky behaviors (p<0.05) and rate stigma is more in women and mental health is lower in this group compared with men. Conclusion: Psychological interventions may be effective in improving mental health and reducing risk behaviors.
