Background and purpose: Nutritional support has an  important role in the improvement of  critical ill patients. Malnutrition has negative effects on the these patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the nutritional status of patients with enteral nutrition in intensive care unit .

Materials and methods: Totally, 85 patients were followed up in this descriptive-analytic studys  from admission to discharge in 4ICUs in Amol, Iran. APACHE IV score was determined for each patient. The prevalence of malnutrition wre determinate according to Subjective Glubal Assessment(SGA), some anthropometric index and some blood biochemical parameters were determined.  Data  were analyzed by the spss 16 software. 

Results: The prevalence of malnutrition according to (SGA)  were  increased significantly on the day of discharge (83.5%) compared to the  admission day (42.6%) (P<0.001). The patients’ mid- upper -arm circumference, triceps skin fold, mid-arm muscle, and calf circumference decreased in time to hospitalization significantly decreased  (P<0.001). Blood creatinine levels (p = 0.001) and  lymphocyte count (P<0.001)  were decreased on discharge time compared to admission significantly.  A negative significant correlation between anthropometric measurements and some biochemical indexes with malnutrition on discharge day was observed. (p <0.05).

 Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition was increased significantly in ICU patients in hospitalization. Handmade gavage solutions did not provide enough energy and protein requirements of patients . The anthropometric measurements and some biochemical indexes were predictor  malnutrition in this study
