Several different causes may lead to this syndrome. In fact, Ballantyne syndrome may result from any factor causing severe hydrops fetalis. The diagnosis can be supported by sudden and rapid weight gain, severe edema, oliguria with albuminuria, blood pressure less than 140 mmHg and hemodilution. In this study, a case with Ballantyne syndrome and hyperstimulated ovaries is reported on which ceasarian section was performed but the newborn infant died after some hours.
