Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of compassion therapy on the dimensions of marital relationship quality and emotional regulation difficulties of couples with marital conflicts.
Method: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the research included couples with marital conflicts who referred to counseling centers and psychological services in the city of Babol in the first quarter of 1402, from which 32 samples were selected by available sampling and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups (for 16 people in each group) were placed. To collect data, Gratz and Romer (2004) difficulty in emotional regulation questionnaires and Fletcher et al. (2000) quality of marital relationships and Gilbert (2009) group training based on compassion therapy were used. For data analysis, multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) test was used with the help of SPSS version 24 software.
Results: Based on the results between the average scores of the two experimental and control groups in the post-test stage in the subscales of satisfaction, commitment, intimacy, trust and sexual excitement in the quality variable of marital relations and the subscales of non-acceptance of emotional reactions, difficulty in performing purposeful behavior, difficulty in impulse control And there is a significant difference in the lack of emotional awareness in the variable of difficulty in emotional regulation (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be said that compassion therapy was effective on the dimensions of marital relationship quality and emotional regulation difficulties of couples with marital conflicts.
