Guideline

  Aims and Scope

  The Razi Journal of Medical Sciences (RJMS) is a monthly peer-reviewed journal sponsored by Iran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services. The Journal is being published with the objective of expanding the knowledge of its readers as well as providing a platform for the interchange of scientific experiences and debates exclusively through medical sciences fields. Based on the journal policy, all submissions in forms of Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Reports, Brief Communication, and Letter to the Editor are welcomed for being considered for possible publication in this Journal. Although the Journal is being published in Persian, however, translated manuscripts are not accepted.

 

  Submission:

  - Authors should submit their manuscript online via registration at http://rjms.tums.ac.ir. It is notable to submit the article in two forms of files namely: "with the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s)" and" without the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s)". In addition, a completed copy of signed cover letter along with the signed copyright assignment form (available from the Journal site) should be provided.

  - The manuscript should not have been published or considered for publication in any other Journals. Any contradiction to the above statement will lead to the automatic withdrawal of the manuscript.

  - A written consent on the part of the organization/institute must be provided allowing the publication of the manuscript in the Journal.

  - Review articles from expert researchers that have substantial amount of reporting in that particular field are accepted for publication.

  - The number of manuscript pages should not exceed 12 (including the text, figures and tables). Case reports must not exceed 5 pages.

 

  Structure of Articles

  -The manuscript should include: Title page, the Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, Acknowledgement and References.

 

  1. The Title Page: The complete title of manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, their affiliation, address for correspondence including telephone and fax number and email address.

  2. The Abstract: all original articles must accompany a structured abstract up to 250 words. It should be structured as Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion, followed by 3 to 5 Keywords. Keywords will assist indexers in cross indexing the article as they are published with abstract. Use terms from Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of index medicus (www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html) authors need to be careful that the abstract reflects the content of the article accurately.

  3. Introduction: this should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it have data or conclusions of the study.

  4. Methods : this should include exact method or observation or experiment. If an apparatus is used, its manufacture’s name and address should be given in parenthesis. If the method is established give reference, but if the method is new give enough information so that others be able to use it. If a drug is used, its generic name, dose and route of administration must be given. For patients, age, sex with mean ±Standard deviation must be given. Statistical method must be mentioned and specify any software used.

  5. Results: it must be presented in the form of the text, tables and illustrations. The contents of the table should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. Long articles may need sub-headings within some sections (especially the results and discussion parts) to clarify their contents.

  6. Discussion and Conclusion: this should emphasize the present findings and the variations and similarities with other works performed in the field by other researchers. The detailed data should not be repeated in the discussion again. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis mentioned in the article is true, false or no conclusion can be derived. 

  1. Acknowledgement: all contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgement section. It should include persons who have provided technical help, writing assistance, or department heads who only have provided general support. Financial and general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged. In case of any financial support it is important to mention the name of the respected organization/institute and the project number at the end of the manuscript.

  2. Tables : In limited numbers should be submitted with the captions placed above. Do not submit tables as photograph. Place explanatory matters at the table’s footnote.

  3. Figures: should be in limited numbers with high quality artwork and mounted on separate pages. The caption should be placed below. The same data should not be presented in the tables, figures, and text simultaneously.

  4. References : all manuscripts should be accompanied by relevant references. The author should ensure reference to locally published studies by conducting proper literature search. It may not be possible for the editor and reviewers to check the accuracy of all referenced citations. To minimize such errors authors should verify references against the original documents. The reference should provide the following information as stated in the presented models as follows:

  a- Persian papers: print surnames and initials of all authors when there are six or less (in case of seven or more authors the first six must be followed by et al), Title of manuscript, Name of journal. Year; Vol. (no): Page.

  b- English papers: In Vancouver Style, print surnames and initials of all authors when there are six or less (in case of seven or more authors the first six authors followed by et al should be listed), Title of manuscript. Abbreviated name of journal; Year. Vol. (no): Page.

  Proof Reading: a computer printout is sent to the corresponding author for proof reading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the journal office.

 

  Abbreviations, symbols and Latin names: use only standard abbreviations. Avoid using them in the title and abstract. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless is a standard unit of measurement.

  The corresponding author: Will be supplied with two free issues.

 

  Ethical guidelines: ethical considerations must be addressed in the method section. 1) Please state that informed consent was obtained from all human adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors. Include the name of the appropriate institutional review board that approved the project. 2) Indicate in the text that the maintenance and care of experimental animals complies with National Institutes of Health guidelines for the human use of laboratory animals, or those of institute or agency. Provision of statement from the Bioethics Committee and registration in RICT are essential for clinical trial studies.

 

  Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.

  Page charges: there are no charges for publication in this journal.

  Copyright: The entire contents of “Razi Journal of Medical Sciences” are protected under international copyrights. This journal is for your personal non-commercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, or publish any materials contained on the journal without the prior written permission of it or the appropriate copyright owner.

  Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer reviewed by at least two anonymous reviewers selected by the editorial board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of editor decision to accept, reject, or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, it is scheduled for the next available issue.

  Disposal of material: Once published, all copies of the manuscript correspondence and artwork will be held for six months before disposal.

  The final checklist

  The authors must ensure that before submitting the manuscript for publication, they have taken care of the following:

  1. Title page should contain title, name of the author/coauthors, their qualifications, designation and institutions they are affiliated with and mailing address for future correspondence, email address, phone and fax numbers.

  2. Abstract in structured format up to 250 words.

  3. References mentioned as stated in the instruction to authors section.

  4. Tables should be typed on separate pages.

  5. Make sure for headings of tables, their numbers and captions of illustrations. Do not repeat the information in tables it is covered in the text.

  6. Photographs/ illustrations along with their captions.

  7. Manuscript in triplicate.

  8. Letter of undertaking signed by all the authors.

  9. Disclosure regarding source of funding and conflict of interest if any besides approval of the study from respective Ethics Committee/Institution Review Board.

  10. Covering letter.

  11. CD including paper file for online edition.
