Abstract
Background and Aim: The aim this study was to investigate the effect of 16 weeks progressive exercise training on the expression of genes that predict pain in lower limb students of Imam Ali Officers' Academy.
Methods: The present study is semi-experimental study Imam Ali Officers' Academy were randomly divided into three control groups (n = 37), progressive exercise group (n = 33) and progressive exercise + booster session (n = 30). Real-time PCR technique was used to evaluate the expression of SMAD3, GDF5 and ASPN genes. For data analysis we used one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test. Data was analyzed with SPSS software version 22 at a significance level of P≤0.05.
Results: The results showed that the expression of ASPN gene in the exercise training + booster session group was significantly different compared to the exercise training group and the control group (P≤000.04) (P≤ 0.05), respectively. The expression of SMAD3 gene in the + booster session + group was significantly different compared to the training group (P≤0.05) and there was no significant difference compared to the control group (P ≥0.05). The expression of the GDF5 gene of the + booster session + group was significantly different from the exercise group (P≤0.05) and the control group (P≤0.05).
Conclusion: It seems that progressive exercise training can moderate the genetic expression of polymorphisms associated with lower extremity pain, especially in the knee joint. As a result, it is best to combine progressive exercise training with booster session.
