abstract Background: Migraine is one of the chronic neurological disease characterized by recurrent episodes of headache and a major cause of decreasing quality of life. The migraine pathophysiology assossiated to vascular system. Studies showed that migrain’s the risk factor of strock and coronary artery disease. The cause of increasing risk not clear. A considered cause’s association of migraine and vascular disturbance and present hypothesis discuss various mechanism and one of them is vascular atherosclerosis. Some studies showed increasing athrosclerosis in Migraineurs, but others rull out such difference of Migraineurs and healthy people. Duppler sonography of carotid arteries’s a partly simple method of intima media thickness (IMT) measurement, showed atherosclerosis in the early stages. Considering hypothesis of migraine association to atherosclerosis, this study’s designed to the purpose of assessing IMT of left and right common carotid arteries with duppler sonography in Migraineurs and compared to healthy people. Method: In the form of case control study and convenience sampling, 60 Migraineurs referred to clinic of neurology of Hazrate Rasule Akram Hospital which had inclusion criteria ,were studied. Also control group was selected from hospital personnel or patient attendant. They undergone duppler sonography by a neurologist.Carotid arteries IMT were determined and the mean carotids IMT were calculated. The duppler sonography device used in this study was0707model ESAOTEBIOMEDICA . finally, data were analyzed in SPSS-15. Qualitative variables analysed in frequency, percent and Q-square test and quantitative variables analysaed in mean, standard deviation , T-test and ANNOVA. Results: there were no significant differences between carotids IMT Of Migraineurs and control group. Carotids IMT in various types of migraine had no difference with each other and control grpup. Also in various frequencies of migraine did not have any difference with each other and control group. there were no significant differences between carotids IMT in men and wemen and control grpup(P>0.05). Conclusion: The rate of therosclerosis’s not different in Migraineurs and healty people. Other increasing risk excep it may cause the high prevalence of cerebral strock and myocardial infarction in Migraineurs.
